KOLLUR

                                      On  2010 Januvary 23 &24 A group of teachers inclding my family visited Kollur,Subrahmanyam,Murudeswara,Uduppi,and Kudajaadri.From Shornur we started the journey in the Train.

Kollur is a tiny village in the Kundapur Taluq of Karnataka that is a special destination for pilgrims from all over the country.Its scenic location against the background of the Western Ghats, on the banks of the perennial Sauparnika River, adds to the serene atmosphere of this famous temple town. This is the site of the famous Mookambika Temple, which is said to have been created by Lord Parashurama.

History 

The Mookambika Temple is one of the busiest religious centers in the country and it is an important seat of Shakti worship. The Goddess Parvati is said to have killed an Asura called Mookasura here, hence the name Mookambika.

The beautiful metal idol of Devi Mookambika  was installed by Sri Adi Shankara. It is said that the Devi appeared before him and he requested that She follow him to Kerala where he wanted her to reside, so that he could worship her regularly. The Goddess agreed to follow him, but put forth a condition he should not look back to check if She was following him.

When Adi Shankara reached this place, the anklets on the foot of the Devi stopped tinkling, he looked back, and the goddess refused to follow him further as per the condition. He had the metal image of the Devi installed in the Kollur Temple, behind the Jyotirlinga.

The Arishna Gundi Waterfalls located deep within the jungle, is a popular tourist spot here. The sunlight falling on the cascade makes it look a bright yellow/orange. This gives it the name Arishna (Turmeric Yellow).

The Kodachadri Hill Range is yet another destination - the place where Sri Adi Shankara had the first Darshan of the Devi. It is frequented by trekking enthusiasts. A special time to visit this temple town would be during the Navaratri or Dussera, when the nine nights dedicated to the female trinity are celebrated in a grand manner.

Kollur is a part of a wildlife reserve, as the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the lesser known natural reserves. It is aided by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Kollur is a place of picturesque beauty that houses breathtaking vistas of valleys and hills and waterways. The temple and the setting will make your visit to Kollur an unforgettable experience.

വിദ്യാദേവതയെ ആരാധിയ്ക്കുന്നവരുടെയെല്ലാം ഇഷ്ടസ്ഥലമാണ് കൊല്ലൂര്‍ മൂകാംബിക ക്ഷേത്രം, കുടജാദ്രിയുടെ വിശുദ്ധിയുമായി ഒഴുകിയെത്തുന്ന സൗപര്‍ണിക നദിയുടെ കരയില്‍ വാഴുന്ന മൂകാംബിക ദേവിയെ നേരില്‍ തൊഴാന്‍ കഴിയുകയെന്നത് ജന്മസൗഭാഗ്യമായിട്ടാണ് ഭക്തര്‍ കരുതുന്നത്.  വല്ലാത്തൊരു ചൈതന്യമുണ്ട് കര്‍ണാടകത്തിലെ ദക്ഷിണ കന്നഡ ജില്ലയില്‍ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കൊല്ലൂര്‍ എന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രനഗരത്തിന്.

 സരസ്വതീ ഭക്തര്‍ക്കൊപ്പം പ്രകൃതിസ്‌നേഹികളായ സഞ്ചാരികളും എത്തുന്നുവെന്നതാണ് കൊല്ലൂരിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകത. പരശുരാമനാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയതെന്നും അതല്ല ആദിശങ്കരനാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയതെന്നും കഥകളുണ്ട്. എന്തായാലും ശങ്കരാചാര്യരുടെ കഥയ്ക്കാണ് കൂടുതല്‍ പ്രചാരമുള്ളത്.

 ചരിത്രത്തിലൂടെ

രാജ്യത്ത് ശക്തി ആരാധന നടക്കുന്ന പ്രമുഖ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില്‍ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ടതാണ് മൂകാംബിക ക്ഷേത്രം. മൂകാസുരനെന്ന അസുരനെ ദേവി ഇവിടെവച്ചാണ് വധിച്ചതെന്നും അതിനാലാണ് മൂകാംബികയെന്ന പേരുവന്നതെന്നുമാണ് കഥകള്‍. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ശ്രീകോവിലില്‍ ജ്യോതിര്‍ലിംഗമാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. സ്വര്‍ണരേഖയെന്ന് പറയുന്ന സ്വര്‍ണവര്‍ണത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു രേഖ ജ്യോതിര്‍ലിംഗത്തിലുണ്ട്. ഈ രേഖ ലിംഗത്തെ രണ്ടായി പകുക്കുകയാണ്. ഈ രണ്ടു ഭാഗങ്ങളില്‍ ചെറിയ ഭാഗം ത്രിമൂര്‍ത്തി ശക്തിയുള്ളതും വലിയ ഭാഗം സൃഷ്ടിയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനായ സരസ്വതി, പാര്‍വ്വതി, ലക്ഷ്മീ എന്നീ ദേവതാ സങ്കല്‍പ്പങ്ങളുമാണ്.

ഈ ജ്യോതിര്‍ലിംഗത്തിന് പിന്നിലായിട്ടാണ് ദേവി മൂകാംബികയുടെ ലോഹവിഗ്രഹം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.  കുടജാദ്രിയില്‍ തപസുചെയ്ത ശങ്കരന് മുന്നില്‍ ദേവി പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള്‍ തന്നെ പിന്തുടര്‍ന്ന് കേരളത്തിലേയ്ക്ക വരാന്‍ ശങ്കരന്‍ ദേവിയെ ക്ഷണിച്ചു. കേരളത്തില്‍ എത്തിച്ച് അവിടെ ദേവിയെ കുടിയിരുത്തുകയായിരുന്നു ശങ്കരന്റെ ഉദ്ദേശം. ശങ്കരന്റെ ഇംഗിതം അംഗീകരിച്ച ദേവി ഒരു നിബന്ധന വച്ചു. താന്‍ പിന്നാലെ നടക്കുമെന്നും എന്നാല്‍ പിന്നില്‍ത്തന്നെയുണ്ടോയെന്നറിയാന്‍ ശങ്കരന്‍ തിരിഞ്ഞുനോക്കരുതെന്നുമായിരുന്നു നിബന്ധന, അഥവാ നോക്കിയാല്‍ ആ സ്ഥലത്ത് താന്‍ ഇരിപ്പുറപ്പിയ്ക്കുമെന്നും ദേവി പറഞ്ഞു.ഈ വ്യവസ്ഥ അംഗീകരിച്ച് ശങ്കരന്‍ മുമ്പിലായി നടന്നു. പിന്നില്‍ നടക്കുന്ന ദേവിയുടെ പാദസരത്തിന്റെ കിലുക്കമാണ് ദേവിയൊപ്പമുണ്ടെന്ന് ശങ്കരന് ഉറപ്പ് നല്‍കിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നത്. കുറച്ചുകഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ പാദസരക്കിലുക്കം കേള്‍ക്കാതായി ദേവി പിന്നിലുണ്ടോയെന്നറിയാന്‍ തിടുക്കമായ ശങ്കരന്‍ നിബന്ധന ലംഘിച്ച് തിരിഞ്ഞുനോക്കി. ഇതോടെ ദേവി നേരത്തേ പറഞ്ഞതുപ്രകാരം ആ സ്ഥലത്ത് കുടിയിരിയ്ക്കുകയായിരുന്നുവത്രേ. ഈ സ്ഥലമാണ് കൊല്ലൂരിലെ മൂകാംബികാ സന്നിധിയെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. ചതുര്‍ബാഹുവായ ദേവീരൂപമാണ് ഇവിടുത്തേത്.

മറ്റ് കാഴ്ചകള്‍

അപൂര്‍വ്വമായ പ്രകൃതിഭംഗിയാല്‍ ഇത്രയും സുന്ദരമായ ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ മറ്റൊന്നുണ്ടോയെന്നുതന്നെ സംശയമാണ്. പല പ്രശസ്ത ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലും ലഭിയ്ക്കാത്ത വല്ലാത്തൊരു ഏകാന്തതയും ശാന്തതയും കൊല്ലൂരില്‍ അനുഭവിയ്ക്കാന്‍ കഴിയും. നൂറ്റിയെട്ട് ശക്തിപീഠങ്ങളില്‍ വിശേഷസ്ഥാനമാണ് കൊല്ലൂര്‍ മൂകാംബികയ്ക്ക് നല്‍കുന്നത്. സിദ്ധി ക്ഷേത്രമായതിനാല്‍ ദേവിയുടെ മുന്നില്‍ നിന്നും പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥിയ്ക്കുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ നടക്കുമെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. ഇവിടെ എഴുത്തിനിരുത്തുന്ന കുട്ടികള്‍ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ രംഗത്ത് ഉന്നതങ്ങളിലെത്തുമെന്നും, ആദ്യത്തെ കലോപാസന ഇവിടെ നടത്തുന്ന കലാകാരന്മാര്‍ നൈപുണ്യം കൈവരിയ്ക്കുമെന്നുമെല്ലാം വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

അരിഷ്ണ ഗുണ്ടി വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടം, സര്‍വ്വജ്ഞപീഠമുള്ള കുടജാദ്രി, മൂകാംബിക വന്യജീവി സങ്കേതം തുടങ്ങി ഒട്ടേറെ ആകര്‍ഷണ ഘടകങ്ങളുണ്ട് കൊല്ലൂരില്‍. മൂകാംബിക ദര്‍ശനത്തിനൊപ്പം ഇതെല്ലാം കാണുകയും ചെയ്യാം.
